Michael Somoroff: A Moment.

Michael Somoroff’s exploration of twenty-five influential photographers captures a pivotal moment in the history of photography through portraits of some of the greatest photographers of the twentieth century, including Brassaï, Andreas Feininger, André Kertesz, Art Kane, Jacques Henri Lartique, and Duane Michals.

The design celebrates tradition “wet” darkroom photography, a passionate subject for the artist, who worked with large format sheet negatives and gelatin silver prints. From the acetate cover that points to the photo negative, the black flocked paper on board which suggested the photographers head cloth, the treatment of the folios, the glossy paper in the second section that suggests RC paper contact sheets– these all lend a strong tactile message that represent a ‘moment’ in photography that is rare today.
