Chola Bronzes From South India
Published in conjunction with the exhibition of the same name by the American Federation of Arts and the Arthur M. Sackler Gallery, Washington, DC. October 2002. The ornate and richly detailed bronzes of the Chola Dynasty require a clean, minimal setting. As many of the objects are shown in both front and rear view, accompanied by a substantial volume of text, the book’s grid and font (Helvetica) allow a significant amount of information to be shown within a spare and spacious environment, a suggestion of the calm, reflective places these objects originally occupied. The muted palette of the book reflects the sublime tonality of the images themselves, and assumes a stance of meditative deference to the sacred nature of the objects. 256 pages, 304 × 251 mm. ISBN 0-295-98284-5.
