Judit Reigl: Panta Rei
About her large horizontal ink drawings and abstract writing, Judit Reigl wrote, “Time is given to us as a present, and demands equal return…I turn myself into my own instrument.” Reigl’s work is primarily about musicality. The book, in a slightly horizontal format is meant to evoke musical manuscript, and to frame the drawings in a way that indicates the fluid forward movement of music itself. The cover depicts the opening of the book’s essay by Janos Gat, to refer tangentially to musical notation and to introduce the theme, but also to point toward the bridge between notation and gesture that her abstract writing represents. The catalogue accompanied the show, “Judit Reigl: Unfolding Unfolding” at Ubu Gallery, December 2010. 56 pages, 9 x 7.5 inches.
